Pool Captain Privacy Policy

The short version: Pool Captain does not collect your data. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no trackers. The app makes no network requests of its own — everything you enter stays in the app's private storage on your own device. Uninstall the app and it is gone.
This policy explains how the Pool Captain mobile app ("Pool Captain," "the app") handles information. Pool Captain is a personal project published by Joe Eaton ("we," "us"). It is a set of offline tools for pool players: match analysis, break-speed measurement, table-difficulty scoring, and match logging.
It covers the app. The website hosting this policy collects nothing, but the tester sign-up form linked from it is a Google Form: what you type into that form, including your email address, goes to Google and then to us. We use it for one purpose — adding you to the closed test so the app can reach your phone — and we delete the responses once the test closes. Submitting the form is entirely optional and has nothing to do with using the app.
Information we collect
None. We operate no servers, no accounts, and no backend for this app. We receive no information about you or your use of Pool Captain — not usage statistics, not crash reports, not device identifiers, not advertising IDs, and not your location.
Information the app stores on your device
Pool Captain saves what you enter so it is still there next time you open the app. This data is written to the app's private storage area, which the operating system isolates from other apps. It is never transmitted anywhere.

The names you enter are labels of your own choosing, used only to organize your own logs. Pool Captain does not ask for, verify, or look up anyone's real identity.
Microphone use
The break-speed tool measures how hard you break by listening for two sounds: your cue striking the cue ball, and the cue ball striking the rack. The time between them, combined with the distance you set, gives the speed.
How this works in practice:
- The app asks for microphone permission the first time you use the break-speed measurement screen. You can decline, and the rest of the app still works.
- The microphone is active only while that measurement screen is open and listening. It is not used anywhere else in the app and does not run in the background.
- Audio is analyzed in memory as it arrives, purely to find the timing of those two impacts. No audio recording is created, saved to a file, or transmitted. The app keeps only a brief buffer needed to draw the on-screen waveform for the break you just measured, and that buffer is discarded when you leave the screen.
- What persists after a measurement is a number — the speed — not a recording.
- You can revoke microphone permission at any time in your device's system settings.
Backups you choose to export
The match trackers let you export a backup. When you do, the app writes a JSON file containing your player names and match logs and hands it to your device's share sheet. You then choose where it goes — a cloud drive, email, a messaging app, or local storage.
That destination is your choice and is outside our control. Once you send a backup somewhere, the privacy policy of that service or app governs it. We never see the file.
What Pool Captain does not do
- No user accounts, sign-in, or registration.
- No advertising and no advertising networks.
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting services.
- No third-party trackers, SDKs that collect data, or social-media integrations.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of personal information — we have none to sell.
- No access to your contacts, photos, calendar, location, or call history.
- No push notifications and no email from us.
App permissions
Pool Captain is built from one cross-platform codebase, so it behaves the same way everywhere it runs. The underlying permission names differ from platform to platform, but the capabilities the app declares are these:

Your device's settings for Pool Captain always show the authoritative list for the version you have installed, and let you change any permission you previously granted.
Retention and deletion
Because your data lives only on your device, you control all of it:
- Delete individual matches, breaks, players, or table profiles inside the app.
- If your device offers it, clear the app's stored data from system settings to erase everything at once.
- Uninstall Pool Captain — on every platform, this removes all of the data it stored on your device.
Backup files you exported yourself are not removed by uninstalling — delete those wherever you saved them.
Your privacy rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete the personal information a company holds about you. We hold none: we receive no data from the app and maintain no records about its users. There is nothing for us to hand over, correct, or delete on your behalf, and no personal information to sell or share. Your data is in your hands, on your device, and the controls above let you view, change, export, and erase it directly.
Children
Pool Captain is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. Because the app collects no information from anyone, it collects no information from children.
Security
Your Pool Captain data sits in the app's private storage sandbox, protected by your device's operating system and whatever device lock you use. Since nothing is transmitted, there is no data in transit to intercept and no server of ours that could be breached. Keeping your device updated and locked is the most effective protection for the information in the app.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects privacy, this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Meaningful changes will be described here rather than made silently. This page is published from a public repository, so its full revision history is available for inspection.
